Emma Thompson

I write about chakra practice, meditation and energy work for people who want the actual instructions — not a mood board. Since 2023 I have published more than a thousand guides at Chakra Serenity, the site I founded and still write for.

My interest is in the part most wellness writing skips: what a practice is supposed to feel like, how long it takes, what the tradition actually says, and where a claim comes from. Where sources disagree, I say so on the page rather than picking whichever one sounds most confident.

How I work

The editorial standards I hold myself to

Wellness is a field with a lot of confident writing and very little sourcing. These are the rules the site runs on, and you are welcome to hold me to them.

Traditional claims are labelled as traditional

Chakra work comes from tantric and yogic tradition, not from clinical research. When something is a traditional teaching or a modern interpretation, the page says so rather than dressing it up in the language of evidence.

Where sources disagree, the disagreement is shown

Plenty of widely repeated facts turn out to have two or three competing versions. Presenting both and saying which is documented is more useful than picking one and sounding certain.

Recommendations disclose the commercial relationship

Some links on Chakra Serenity are affiliate links and earn a commission at no extra cost to the reader. Every one is marked on the page it appears on. A product is recommended for a stated, checkable reason or it is not recommended.

Pages get corrected, and the date shows it

Articles are revisited rather than left to rot. When a page has been substantively updated its byline shows the update date, not the original publication date, so you can see how current it is before you read it.

Nothing here is medical advice

Energy work sits alongside medical care, never instead of it. If something hurts, persists, or frightens you, the right next step is a clinician — and the site says that rather than implying a practice will handle it.

Background

How I got here

I came to chakra work the way most people do — through a period when the ordinary advice was not helping, and someone handed me a practice instead of a prescription. What kept me there was not the imagery. It was that the instructions were specific, and that following them carefully produced something I could notice.

The problem was finding those instructions written down honestly. Most of what I read was either so vague it could not be followed or so certain it could not be trusted. Chakra Serenity started as my own notes: what a practice was, where it came from, how long it took, and what actually happened when I did it.

That has grown into more than a thousand articles across forty-one topics, plus ten free tools I built because the alternative was recommending an app that wanted an email address for something a browser can do. I still write nearly all of it myself.

If you are new to the site, the Chakra Basics section is the place to start, and the balance test is the fastest way to work out which centre to look at first.
